Adding a Sunset effect in Photoshop CS3

(beginner to intermediate level)

This effect has been around for ages but it is nice to know it still works in Photoshop CS3. Basically the effect allows you to add a sunset glow to existing daytime shot. This effect is often used to add a more romantic feel to the image.

Step 1: Selecting Photos

To accomplish the sunset effect you will need to open not only the image you wish to apply the effect to but an actual sunset photo to take the colours from like the one below.

Step 2: Apply the effect

Select your original picture and choose Image > Adjustments > Match Color

match color menu item

In the resulting dialog box you will be asked for the source of the colors you wish to use - Select the sunset. A small thumbnail shows to let you know you have the right picture.

At this point your image will look pretty aweful but easily fixed simlply drag the fade button to the right until you get the effect you want.
